เปิดชีวิต ‘นักโทษเกือบสี่พัน’ ในคุกฟิลิปปินส์ ที่ถูกสร้างมาเพื่อรองรับนักโทษเพียง 800 คน

เรือนจำหรือคุก เป็นแหล่งที่ไม่ว่าใครก็ไม่อยากเข้าไปอยู่แน่นอน เพราะนอกจากไม่มีอิสรภาพแล้ว เรายังไม่รู้ด้วยว่า อยู่ในนั้นต้องเจอกับอะไรบ้าง วันนี้ก็เลยจะพาชมสภาพคุกแห่งหนึ่ง ที่เห็นแล้วเราถึงกับหดหู่ไปตามๆ กัน….

และนี่คือสภาพนักโทษที่ต้องอยู่กันอย่างแออัดที่เรือนจำ Quezon City อยู่ทางเหนือของกรุงมะนิลา ในประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ โดยนักโทษมีจำนวนมากถึง 3,600 คน แต่ต้องมาอยู่รวมกันในห้องที่สร้างขึ้นเพื่อคน 800 คนเท่านั้น

พวกเค้าจะสลับกันนอนที่สนามบาสเกตบอล ตามขั้นบันได ใต้เตียง หรือบางทีก็นำผ้าห่มมาผูกเป็นเปลนอน แต่ทำไงก็ยังแออัดอยู่ดี ที่สำคัญเวลานอน พวกเค้าไม่สามารถยืดแขน ยืดขาได้อย่างเต็มที่ด้วย แค่ขบับนิดเดียวก็ไปชนกับคนอื่นแล้ว

นอกจากที่นอนแล้ว ด้านอาหารการกินก็ไม่เพียงพอด้วย รายงานจากบางแห่งบอกว่า บางทีก็มีซากแมลงในอาหารอีกต่างหาก แต่พวกเค้าก็ต้องทนกับสภาพแบบนี้เพื่อความอยู่รอด

Raymund Narag อดีตนักโทษที่เคยติดคุกนาน 7 ปี ด้วยข้อหาฆาตกรรม (ซึ่งเขาอ้างว่าไม่ได้ทำ) ได้เขียนหนังสือขึ้นมาเล่มหนึ่งชื่อว่า ‘เสรีภาพและความตายในคุก’ 

โดยภายในหนังสือเล่มนี้ เขาได้เขียนเล่าประสบการณ์ตลอดที่อยู่ในคุกราวกับว่ากำลังเผชิญกับความตายทุกๆ นาที กิจวัตรประจำวันของพวกนักโทษก็คือ ออกกำลังกาย เล่นบาส ทำอาหาร และซักผ้าด้วยน้ำสกปรก

 

พวกเค้ายังถูกบังคับให้นอนบนพื้นที่เต็มไปด้วยซากแมลงสาบ และอากาศก็ไม่ถ่ายเทด้วย จึงทำให้นักโทษไม่สบายบ่อยมาก
