“โปเกมอนช่วยชีวิตผม” หนุ่มอังกฤษคิดฆ่าตัวตาย แต่ได้เกม Pokemon GO ชีวิตกลับดีขึ้น

แม้จะดูเหลือเชื่อไปหน่อยแต่นี่ก็คือเรื่องจริงล่ะ ชายที่ทุกคนกำลังได้เห็นอยู่นี้ เขามีชื่อว่า Jack Kilbourn วัย 22 ปี จากเมืองเลสเตอร์ ประเทศอังกฤษ เขามีอาการป่วยทางจิต เป็นโรคซึมเศร้าขั้นรุนแรง เขาเคยเกือบที่จะกระโดดตึกฆ่าตัวตายมาแล้ว

แต่คุณรู้ไหมว่าอะไรที่ทำให้ชีวิตของเขาเปลี่ยนจากหลังเท้าเป็นหน้ามือ? เกม Pokemon Go ยังไงล่ะ คุณอาจจะสงสัยว่าแค่เกมมือถือธรรมดาๆ มันจะช่วยชีวิตคนได้ยังไง งั้นลองไปฟังเรื่องราวของเขากัน

Jack เล่าว่าในวัยเด็กตอนที่เขาอายุได้ราวๆ 3 ขวบ เขาชื่นชอบการสะสมการ์ดการ์ตูนมาก จากนั้นเขาก็เริ่มชื่นชอบโปเกมอน คลั่งชนิดที่ว่าสามารถระบุได้เลยว่าตัวไหนเป็นตัวไหน…เพียงแค่ฟังจากเสียงมันเท่านั้น

เขาดำเนินชีวิตไปเรื่อยๆ แต่แล้วเมื่อช่วงเดือนมีนาคมปี 2016 ที่ผ่านมา เขาก็ประสบกับปัญหาความเครียดและซึมเศร้า ไม่ยอมออกจากบ้านเป็นเดือน เลยคิดที่จะฆ่าตัวตายด้วยการกระโดดลงมาจากตึกที่เป็นอาคารสำหรับจอดรถ

In March this year Jack was diagnosed with clinical depression after he climbed to the top of a multi-storey car park and threatened to jump off. The diagnosis meant Jack was signed off from his job at River Island where he had worked for five years after his condition worsened. But after Nintendo launched Pokemon Go, Jack says his life has been turned around and he has even left his home for the first time in months in a bid to catch all the characters. He now spends his time walking up to 13 miles-a-day, searching for the hidden digital creatures, and meeting and mixing with fellow gaming enthusiasts.

 

จากการตรวจวินิจฉัยในครั้งนั้นทำให้ Jack ต้องออกจากงานในบริษัทที่เขาทำมาเป็นเวลา 5 ปี “ผมกลายเป็นคนที่เละเทะโดยสมบูรณ์ วันๆ เอาแต่นั่งอยู่กับบ้าน ปล่อยให้ความหดหู่เข้าครอบงำจิตใจ ผมแทบไม่อยากก้าวเท้าออกไป ราวกับติดกับดักอยู่ในบ้าน”

“ผมเคยอยู่แต่ในบ้าน 2 อาทิตย์เต็มๆ เพราะกลัวการออกไปข้างนอก ผมเคยสูญสิ้นความหวังในโลกของตัวเอง กระทั่งคิดถึงการฆ่าตัวตายไปให้พ้นๆ” Jack กล่าว

แต่โชคดีที่ในช่วงเวลาแห่งชีวิตนั้น เป็นช่วงเดียวกับที่ Nintendo ปล่อยเกม Pokemon Go ออกมาพอดี ชีวิตของ Jack ก็เปลี่ยนเปลี่ยนไปทันที เขาเริ่มก้าวขาออกจากบ้านหลังจากที่เก็บตัวมานาน เพื่อไปตามจับโปเกมอน

Jack ต้องเดินไกลวันนึงเกือบ 20 กิโลเมตรเพื่อมตามหาสิ่งมีชีวิตดิจิตอล และนั่นทำให้เขาได้เจอกับโปเกมอนมาสเตอร์คนอื่นๆ ได้ทำความรู้จักกัน และมีสังคมใหม่ๆ จนชีวิตของเขาหลุดออกจากความเศร้าซึมได้ในที่สุด ถือเป็นเรื่องที่ดีสำหรับเขามากเลยนะ

ปัจจุบัน Jack ใช้เวลาไปกับการตามจับโปเกมอนนอกบ้าน มากกว่าการอยู่บ้านเฉยๆ เสียอีก รวมระยะทางแล้ว ตอนนี้เขาเดินไปแล้วกว่า 120 กิโลเมตรแล้วตั้งแต่เริ่มโหลดเกมนี้มาเล่น จับโปเกมอนไปแล้ว 75 ตัว นี่น่าจะทำให้เขาห่างไกลจากคำว่า “โรคซึมเศร้า” มากแล้วล่ะ

 

เกมมันไม่ได้มีแต่เรื่องแย่ๆ นะ อย่างหนุ่มคนนี้รอดตายมาได้เพราะเกมเลย
